I find it so interesting that people complain about how depressing the news is. Fact of the matter is that depressing news has a greater chance of affecting us than happy news. String of armed robberies in the city? Relevant to my existence. Cat dials 911 to save ailing, elderly stroke victim? Cool, and I'm glad to hear, but it doesn't actually affect me, which is what the news is aimed at. This isn't a big deal in online news, but I prefer TV news to be up to date for breaking news, not wasting time on human interest pieces.
